I made it! (All 9 of us made it...) It was an A-W-E-S-O-M-E trip. We started hiking at midnight Sunday morning at 8,000ft and reached the summit at 14,500ft by 8:00am. After a brief 30min break, we turned around and headed back down to 8,000ft, making it by 3:30pm. Wow... 22 miles, 12,000 feet of elevation change, 15 hours of hiking, and some of the most breathtaking High Sierra scenery you can imagine... priceless! (Pictures coming soon!)
Here's a link to a 360 view of Trail Crest - a point in the trail at about 13,600ft where you reach the ridge and cross over to the backside of Whitney for the final 2.5mi stretch to the summit. On one side you see into Sequoia National Forrest; on the other you see down almost 10,000ft into the valley!
